SILC
Real time monitoring system for your lines
With the increase in production machine speeds, the multiplicity of inspection equipment and the light weight of glassware, glassmakers have to supply their Cold End and Hot End operators with a logistical view of their production lines.

With SILC, you are always aware of what is happening on your lines. SILC is the best tool for your operators because it efficiently reduces their reaction times along the lines. It has been proven that the payback is around 6 months.

PRINCIPLE
Production line information is centralized and processed by a SIL server. It is displayed in HE and CE on operator workstations hooked up to the network.

SILC 2012 version
Have a look at the 10 functionalities among the improvements of the new SILC version.

More flexibility with the management of multi articles
SILC already manages bi-production on one IS machine.
From now on, SILC will be able to manage multiple productions on one IS machine.
Thanks to the new mechanism for multi weights on one feeder, we can manage several article weights.

For Glassmakers working with small productions, it is easy to declare up to 4 articles at the same time and follow the output and the losses for every article.

New view: Evolution of the losses per cavity
The IS machine view allows to you know the repartition of losses per mold. The evolution of the losses in time had been missing. From now on, you can check the evolution of the losses on a mold and a defect on a configurable time period. You determine the exact moment when a defect appeared on a mold to make the link with swabbing and any other event.

New view : Evolution of losses per cavity with events
Thanks to the ‘details’ button, you can see the following events at the same time :

  • Losses per cavity
  • Mold changes
  • Systematic rejections

See the repartition between cavities
So far, SILC has displayed the graph of the rejected for a specific defect. From now on, SILC will be able to display the graph depending on level of precision required

Stronger partnership with XPAR : Management of XPAR rejections’ causes
SILC now gets the causes of XPAR rejections, in addition with the quantities.

Systematic rejections of unread and misread molds
So far, the unread molds (mold 0) and misread molds (molds 99, 127 depending on the MNR type) have been rejected for critical defects only. Now, SILC will be able to specify the critical level from which unread/misread molds must be rejected at the Cold End.

You determine the exact moment when a defect appeared on a mold to make the link with swabbing and any other event.

The evolution of the losses per cavities is available:

  • In percentage or quantity,
  • On 4h, 8h, 24h (Data on 96h)
  • Per hour or on a 5 minute-scale
  • Per MNR (Check detection, Video, HE machine) or for all MNR
  • Per cavity or for the whole IS machine
  • Per defect

New view : Evolution of losses per cavity with events
Thanks to the ‘details’ button, you can see the following events at the same time:

  • Losses per cavity
  • Mold changes
  • Systematic rejections

The view is available by several ways:

  • Access from the IS machine view, with right click on one of the cavities
  • Access from the main view
  • Access from the section comparison

See the repartition between cavities
  • of a defect on a loop (or for all loops)
  • of the rejected on a loop (or for all loops)
  • of the systematic rejections on a loop (or for all loops

So far, SILC has displayed the graph of the rejected for a specific defect.
From now on, SILC will be able to display the graph depending on level of precision required

  • select the “Total” column for restitution for the whole line, for all loops
  • select “Right loop” for restitution of rejected for a specific defect (example: ….) on the right loop.
select syst rejections for restitution of systematic rejections on the right loop

Stronger partnership with XPAR : Management of XPAR rejections’ causes
SILC now gets the causes of XPAR rejections, in addition with the quantities

To profit from this functionality, the XPAR software version has to be up-to-date or upgraded in the plant.

This improvement allows access to the IS machine screens (sections comparison, losses per cavity history).

During the MNR configuration, the Operator has a possibility of whether or not to activate the systematic rejection on the MNR on the line where possible.

In the MNR configuration, rejection modes available for non read or misread molds:

► Never
► Very critical
► Critical and more
► Major and more
► All criticalities
► Manual

In case of manual choice, during the validation of a systematic rejection, the SIL system indicates the rate of not read on MNR to the Operator:

The operator can then choose on which MNR unread and/or misread molds will be automatically rejected.

SILC 2011 version

The new SILC version is focused on the system ergonomics in order to make the operators’ work easier.
New functionalities :

Assistance to systematic rejection:
The systematic rejection can be a tedious job when several moulds are to be rejected. Now you can reject half a machine or a section or a gob. Moreover, the operator can reject several moulds for one unique reason. A view of the IS machine is now available to help the Operator to locate the moulds mounted on the IS machine.
Display of the name of the defects on the history of cavities
Display of the IS machine in the email page, to know where the moulds mentioned in the message are located
Possibility to display information from the main view (output and losses) : main losses, colour, tendency
The evolution curves of output and losses are displayed with higher precision (over 5 minutes), which allows to know exactly when a machine was disturbed or when a defect appeared.
Improvements of thickness measurements display : display of the thickness canals
Some menus are now secured by passwords : parameter, feeder stop, production change, weight at HE
Distribution of a defect on all cavities and detail per cavity

New organisation in inspection machines display
Personalized daily reports
New screen for swabbing
Possibility to export a copy of SILC screen
Functionalities
New time basis available in SILC
During production meeting, managers want to compare defects by cavity on the previous day. We add the possibility to watch defects on previous day to options already available (30 minutes, shift, day, production).
Possibility to weight at a fixed time
You can parameter the frequency for your records, for example every 20 mn. In previous versions of SILC, recording was asked 20mn after the previous recording, which could create delays. Now, you can ask for recording every 20 mn sharp.
Weight tolerances
The operators had to record the changes in working weight at hot end. Now, it is automatically transferred from the lab.
Management of moulds with "incorrect reading"
The SIL manages "not read" moulds. In 2008 version, it manages moulds with "incorrect reading" too.

Number and duration of breakdown of the equipment
With 2007 Version SILC, follow machine breakdown

From any SILC workstation, you visualize in one glance the equipment stopped and can warn your Maintenance or Quality Department.

SILC displays :
• Breakdown duration for each piece of equipment in minutes
• Efficiency in % from the main view · Efficiency in curves
• Number of machines stopped
• Alarms in case of breakdown
• Daily printing of event duration

Equipments are necessarily connected to our SILAcq cabinet with 24V digital inputs
It is essential for the following of a glass plant to know the number and duration of breakdown of the equipment. From now on, 2007 Version of SIL allows you to know the efficiency rate of your equipment. Alarms for lehr, coating treatment, inspection machines or palletizers can then be connected to the SIL.

Lehr exit controls
Simple keying
The operator records the defects observed in his samplings by choosing from a pre-established list. Defects can be assigned cavity by cavity.

Memorization
Each operator can consult results of the last controls, for each defect, for each mould, classified by AQL, by value and by percentage.

Visual display
The results of the latest sampling are instantaneously displayed at the Hot End terminal on a window representing the IS Machine. A corresponding color code enables the operator to immediately judge the production quality level.

Informing Hot End terminals immediately of Cold End sampling results
considerably assists the glassmaker for the process management

Messages
Traceability
On screen or with report print-outs, you keep in memory events which occur during production. For each message the following are recorded : the sender, the content, the hour of transmission and reception.

Description
An operator enters messages to be transmitted. A display pops-up on the workstation screen of the operator who receives these messages. Each message received must be validated individually.

Reduced reaction time
The system informs operators automatically of actions taking place on the line :
• mould change
• mould rejection with indication of the cause.

SILC also enables each operator to send messages with his own text.
Simply, e-mail brings operators closer together and reduces information transmission time.
Losses
Expertise
Our extensive knowledge of inspection machines enables you to efficiently exploit your equipment.
SILC can be installed on any holloware production line.
VERTECH' will advise you for the definition and realization of data acquisition that best suit your needs.

Immediate interpretation
From the long-term trend graph analysis to the display of «real time» values, SILC was designed keeping in mind two basic principles : analysis must be kept simple and interpretation immediate.

Alarms
As soon as a percentage on a conveyor is over the authorized limit,
it is displayed in red.
Precise loss recognition on a production line is a necessary part of the total control of the glassmaker process.

Losses per mould
Clear visualisation
A color code indicates to operators the status of each cavity : normal production, exceeding authorized defect rate, rejection of a mould production....

Detailed analysis
By simply selecting the cavity, SILC displays:
• the distribution of a defect over the whole machine
• the list of defects on the mould
• the comparison of defect rates between control conveyors.

Self training
The results of any action taken on the IS machine are instantaneously reported to the operator, widening his knowledge base.
The introduction of Mould Number Readers has revolutionized defects analysis by increasing precision. This analysis has also become more time consuming and more difficult. SILC makes it simple.

Weight
Increased reactivity
You define your own quality parameters for weight and software instantaneously indicates to operators what corrective actions should be taken.

Numerous advantages
The control chart of each gob on each feeder provides :
• better analysis of feeder fluctuations
• control of defects linked to weight
• better capacity follow up.

Implementation
Connected behind the operator terminal, the scale records automatically the weight of articles placed on it.
The control of the gob weight is an important element of the glassmaker process.
This function combines easy implementation with the efficiency of the SPC.

Thicknesses per mould
SILC is able to recover Thicknesses per mould collected by VMA sensors installed on Veritas, C0 and Busch & Spreen machines. The following values are displayed to HE, CE operators and to Managers :

Thickness distribution along the bottle represented with an IS machine,

Evolution of the thickness on 4 levels, during time, presented with curves,

Display of the last 100 rejected items...

For more information about VMA products, see http://www.vma-online.de
Internal pressure
Extremely precise analysis
SIL decides of start and end of the systematic rejection of a mould. A multi-criteria visualization provides the results of all types of tests : test, check test, breakage period, mould reacceptance.

Trends knowledge
With variable time bases, the analysis of average values and the distribution over different periods is made possible. IS operators can decide on corrective actions.

Totally automatic operation
Once the operating parameters are keyed in, SIL automatically manages items to test.
Operators can look after other subjects.

SILC asks the Mould Number Reader to sample the items to be tested. They are then sent to the AGR SPT machine which carries out the internal pressure test. Then, the SIL analyses the results. This device is available for "Dimensions" machines.

Moulds management
Mould prices and costs for repairs justify focussing on their rotations. Moreover, traceability requirements mean that it is essential to be able to answer clients quickly.
Until now, there was no tool enabling glass manufacturers to follow mould lifetime easily. VERTECH' designed it !

Powerful tools allow your personal data processing.
